Local prices of Celicas?
« on: Sep 14, 2019, 07:55:55 am »
Hey all. I've been looking to get rid of the old 94 Camry and have been looking at those 2000s Celica. They sure do look fun. I was wondering what kind of prices you guys see for that year around where you live. Im from Oregon and its around 5-6k for a Celica. Is that worth it to you or??

Example:

For that mileage, $5k is just a bit too steep. I'd find something like that in my area for $4k or less. A $5-6k Celica GT-S manual would have maybe 100k on it.
Celica the '84 Two-tone RA64 - Phase 2 In Progress! (159k); 1UZ-FE V8 Swap, W58 5-speed swap, Koni x Swift x T3 suspension, 6G Celica seat belts, TRD 2-way LSD, Corolla tape deck
Mia the '91 Miata - Revived Twice! (264k); BP-5A 1.8L swap, an NB in NA clothes
Lude the '95 Prelude Si - The Tweaker Queen (237k)
Lilith the '94 Legend GS - Blown HG (152k)

Considering it's from a dealer they're going to ask high. In CA we had a lot sold here so prices in general are lower, but I think for the same specs/mileage it would be closer to $4K.

Just curious, how come you're stuck on a 2000 in particular? Most of the guys here are into 3rd gens (1982 to 1985).

Maybe cuz the GTS comes with a 6 speed manual and a motor that can rev over 8000 rpms crammed into an extremely light weight chassis that can be easily turned into an under rated track weapon :heh:

Trust me, I've thought about it quite a bit :heh: The 2ZZ-GE isn't as popular as the K-series motors, but it's still potent. I originally thought about putting a 2ZZ into my Celica. If you go down that route look into some of the Lotus 7 replicas, I saw in the UK someone using 2ZZ-GE mated up to some kind of Ford 5 speed. Not sure of the process, but I'm sure people have figured out something by now.

edit:
Looks like someone has figured out some idea. Looks like the Getrag 250 out of BMWs share two bolts on the bellhousing with the 2ZZ.

There was a company calle O Pie Garage (lol) who was in the works of making a 2ZZ RWD bellhousing. It seems like they've got them up and for sale on their webpage, along with other swap parts.

https://www.opiegarage.com/2022rzz

I was in talks with Josh, the owner of the shop, for months about the specifics of a California-kosher 2ZZ RA64/65 swap, and it turned out to be way more trouble than it was worth. The fuel system and manifolds were going to be the biggest headaches to solve for the BAR certification. I even talked with Tom at FFS Superchargers (he makes CARB legal supercharger kits for Miatas), and asked what was involved in making aftermarket parts CARB legal. This way, you could get CARB-legal longitudinal-layout manifolds and other bits to make it work in a 3rd-gen car, but again, it's way too much trouble.

not sound like an idiot, but I thought on the early model 2ZZGEs the intake manifold was a multi-piece design where you could flip the intake and get the TB pointing forward?

edit: looks like it was on the Matrix and Corollas with 2ZZs?

edit: looks like the alternator would have to be relocated.

You are correct about the manifold being a 2-piece design for the Corolla/Matrix, but whether it is reversible, not so sure.

Alternator for sure.

Also, the stock FF exhaust manifold would just barely foul on the Celica frame rail if you maintain the 15 degree cant that the 2ZZ has in its natural transverse layout. I measured it using my stepdad's Lotus Elise as reference.

That's one heck of a KP build!!

no biggy, just bend it a little. It looks like you can flip the intake, but new holes would need to be drilled and tapped, just gotta make it look factory is all

Well, that leaves the fuel system, and the complications lie in the 20 year technology time difference. I feel like the BAR would make you use the 7th-gen fuel tank and evap controls because it's all OBDII based. OH and making everything OBDII as well, yikes. Maybe if I have the spare income and time to do it, I'd have a go at it.

Yea, it's hell, but that's the case with any modern engine swap on our cars. I think for myself I'm not going to be going through a BAR if you know what I mean :heh:
