Gremlin has struck.
« on: Oct 07, 2019, 01:49:35 pm »
Have 85 ra64 still powerless by way of 22re, Converted to mspnp2 and innovated wideband controller. Recently Rewired my wideband controller straight from battery with ign triggering the relay and is now working flawlessly, had the glovie and part of dash apart. And notice I previously had wide controlling afr turn that crap off and damned thing was running and start the best it has since my motor rebuild. Went to start after stopping off to costco and no power to Ecu and fuel pump not powering up. Ecu is in control of fuel ditched the AFM. also tried stock ecu to see if  engine light would pop on. Turns over fine. Will post my findings. Away from car at this time. Checked fuses, relays, and been testing ecu harness pins, batt, etc. Still in the process. Not sure if 85 has a manual reset breaker. Anyways thought I would see if anyone has ran into this. Had previous issues like this before, but usually wouldn't have gauge lumination when it happened.  Gone from level 1 wiring skill to level 2 overnight.
22re 270eb cam, ss valves, ported, 93 probe afm, four hole 211cc injectors, obx header 2-1/4 exhaust- still the slowest car on the block until the first corner. Hondon't adjustable coilover w/proshock 250lbs front, trucoil 225lb rear, agx front to back, addco front, whiteline rear, energy suspension. some yellow brake pads for the front.  Everything else has been restored to better then oem. And new 3.90 gearset by MotiveGear.

Have not tested or located open switch relay. Was wonder if this would cause the ecu to not power up.

Ecu is in control of fuel ditched the AFM.

Did you convert to a MAP sensor?

Also, AFM controls power to the fuel pump, unless you have the test jumper shorted.

Ozzie, sirdan, thanks for reply. Followed most all your projects over the years. Will  definitely check my fuse links, just got back from orcas.  The MSpnp2 now has a 4-bar map sensor on board and i have looped the fuel pump wires to be controlled by megasquirt with the internal switch in down position. and the gm iat sensor in place.. It was running flawlessly a few nights ago. Will be sure to post any findings.

Well it's working again,!!?? Not exactly sure what I did. I started by checked fuse links, injection relays 1# and 2#, and all other relays as far as putting power to relay and making sure power was also going through. Also checked two circuit breakers under left kick panel think i might have reset one.

The ign relay which worked but was heavily corroded on the trigger prongs and took a screw driver to clean it up. Gonna continue looking for anymore corrosion on left kick panel. Possible the gremlin is still in there I just wiggled him a bit.

When you find corrosion like that, always take the time to fully clean the terminals and coat them with dielectric grease to ensure that gremlin doesn't come back. :)

Roger that! Done did that. Now my problem is the ignitor is not giving a 5-8 volt signal just stays at 12v when going through the testing procedure. It will start and run with some major pedal work and idle after warmup after a massive change in my fuel tables mspnp2 microsquirt module. Not sure if not getting 5v on the ignitor is a megasquirt side effect. Also wonder if this can cause insanity?

Also with mention vaccum is damn near atmospheric at idle got all big on the cam .490 lift and 290 duration.

If your ignitor is dying that would explain the lack of running. The ignitors in these cars seem to be good for about 30 years, I know a lot of people have had issues with them going tits up.
Since you have an MSPNP you have plenty of options for replacement, HEI 7 pin module is probably the least expensive. There are also Bosch modules that will work.

I tried my old ignitor and not even a cough, the old one is completely dead. When the first one died their was not a single person thinking a bad ignitor as a possiblity. But for a second one to go bad says something else is going on. It will start, but to keep it going is near impossible when cold. Ignitor does warm up after 5 minutes of trying to start the damned thing.

Yeah, the 7 pin HEI is going to be much better supported by any aftermarket ECU, and a heck of a lot easier and cheaper to find then a stock toyota one.
