Functions as Intended
« on: Apr 14, 2020, 02:40:52 am »
Hello there people.

I've been lurking this forum off and on for a couple of years. I have owned my 1984 Celica GTS for around 4 years. I have mainly just kept it road worthy while it was on the back burner as I worked on other cars (IS300 and 280z). Now I have finally pulled the trigger and started a "build" for the Celica. This is my first time truly modifying a car so it should be interesting.

Here's how it sits right now as I work on swapping in the s13 front suspension.

Here's all the parts for the s13 suspension swap. The coilovers are Parts Shop Max Coilovers that I got off craigslist.

The front suspension is in. I still need to hook up the brakes and tighten all the hardware, but the suspension is in!

Looks sweet from what I can see! Photobucket is putting some kind of watermark on there. You might want to try using imgur for uploading photos.

on Firefox, rightclick- View Image. Makes it bigger and takes away the watermark.

Alright, I got an imgur account so hopefully this works.

Here's the supra 7.5" rear end I hope to put into the Celica soon. We'll see if I can get to it in a timely manner.

Here's the driver's side on jack stands. The coilovers are close to as high as i can get them, so the car will probably sit pretty low.  The car will get a bath once it is rolling again so please don't hate me for the filth.

Nice! I've always wanted to see someone do a S13 front suspension swap on the Celica, seems only natural really.

A few others did the s13 front suspension swap before me actually. I just followed suit once I knew it was possible without too much work lol

My coilovers are very low though. I bought some used PBM coilovers and they are built to go way lower than I want. I am thinking about buying a set of gktech offset strut tops to add some height, lower camber, and add more caster. I do not know if the celica strut tower has enough clearance for them though.

Ah you're right. Post up picks of the suspension. I wonder if Wisefab setup would work too.

Front Suspension
OEM S13 Control Arms
OEM RA65 Tension Arms
Xcessive Tie Rod Spacers
S13 Knuckles
S13 Brakes
S13 Coilovers

Rear Suspension
Dobinson 300lb Springs (hopefully getting here early August  :( )
S13 Rear Coilovers with springs removed (just the shock)

You have to drill another whole in the control arms for our tension rods to attach so using aftermarket control arms is a risk. I'd just use boxed oem s13 control arms. The camber is from this setup is nuts so going any longer in the control arm seems unnecessary.

I'm actually building the celica for Tail of the Dragon so i'm trying to reduce the camber enough to not shred the tires driving to the mountains. Hence why the offset strut tops are looking shiny.

Didn't the knuckles with the different style struts assembly help with the excessive camber? That's why I built an adapter plate on our stock strut to convert the hub assembly to accept MR2 strut casings. I went extra wide on the suspension and like you said then you have tons of camber. Are you able to add more caster with your setup?

There may be a s13/s14 knuckle coilover combo that adds positive camber, but I haven't looked it up. The gkteck offset strut tops add positive camber and have caster adjustment to try and get more caster than what the stock tension rod offers.

I see. I went with Celica Supra camber plates since they're clocked 90 degrees and tried to go for max caster, but still seems a bit pitiful
