Nissan VQ37VHR 7 speed auto swap...
« on: Jul 17, 2020, 07:57:35 pm »

After much debates, UZ vs VQ...

The layout of the VQ37VHR is just about right, front sump and with the automatic transmission, Nice and tight.

Might even shave a few pounds.

The 85 GT-S manual came with the F code 3.90 - what I got
7 speed auto came with 3.357 =

Gear ratios - 7 speed   | 1985 Celica GT-S w58
1st 4.923     |    1st: 3.285
2nd 3.193     |    2nd: 1.894
3rd 2.042     |    3rd: 1.275
4th 1.411     |    4th: 1.00
5th 1.000     |    5th: 0.783
6th 0.862
7th 0.771
Rev. 3.972     |   Rev: 3.768

More to come, any ideas or information would be great.

Compression ratio   11
Displacement   3696 cc (225.5 cu in)
Power output   243 kW (330 HP) at 7,000 rpm
245 kW (333 HP) at 7,000 rpm
261 kW (355 HP) at 7,000 rpm
Torque output   361 Nm (266 lb·ft) at 5,200 rpm
363 Nm (268 lb·ft) at 5,200 rpm
365 Nm (269 lb·ft) at 5,200 rpm
Redline   7,600

Wow! The wiring and ECU setup is going to be more complicated / sophisticated using a newer VQ... have you thought about how you might set that up? Otherwise, mechanically, you can make anything fit. ;)

Correct on the fitment, but what got me turned on was the size and weight of the vq37 package.
The other reason was I want to just go fast, so 7 speed auto and the stock ECU will be used along with the paddle shifter set up.

My 1st task will be to get wrecked g37 RWD because AWD have a axle running through the oil pan.
I want everything to make it run like factory sans a few things, and just that adds 3x the Buff Horses !

Also will be selling my 85 gts 22re + w58 on megasquirt.

I never thought about putting a VQ motor in our chassis, and honestly the specs would be amazing. I may have to find a wrecked manual 350z............
85 Celica GT Coupe - rusted out and parted out
84 Celica GT-S Hatch- My beautiful pride and joy

Whenever you are ready to sell that package, I might be able to take it off of your hands. I'm in Garner NC, so hit me up if you need any help with the swap. I love the vq engines so hopefully you can pull this off!
