Really?  Just for shits and giggles, I punched the info to ship a trans into the DHL website from Oregon to the Momiji Japanese Restaurant in Newstead QLD (random choice, just needed an address). 

Are you sitting down?  $995.68 based on a trans which weighs 80lbs and measures 20"x20"x32" (just a guess on the measurements, weight should be close).  $995.68 USD = $1,400 AUD

Looks like you can get a complete rebuilt one in Aus for $1600

Unfortunately they are doing pickup only in a quarantined state, so anything in VIC is a no go as the borders are locked down. A real shame since it seems to be a great deal.

They are? I have one sitting here with 250k km but shipping it that far would cost way too much!

-Rebuilt engine: bored .020 over, oversize valves, new cam
-Thorley header w/heated O2 sensor at collector & all new exhaust
-Impact6 strut bar
-3.9LSD rearend, which is now slipping
-Lots of bodywork and new paint!
-New cd player to cover up all those squeaks and rattles
-JK short-throw shifter

Bumping for update:

I have now got a W58 and 21R-W bellhousing.

The updated list of parts needed are:

- Clutch pedal + bracket
- clutch master
- clutch slave
- clutch lines
- release fork + bearings?
