HI
« on: Apr 06, 2021, 06:43:35 pm »
Hi name is Edward. This is my first project car, 84 Celica GTS. My dad had a 85 Celica Supra when I was a kid. Best friend owns his own shop and is going to help me. I came here to get advise on finding parts and maybe some help so I don't make any mistakes. I am by no means a mechanic, I am a IT professional by trade but know my way around a shop just don't trust myself to do a project  of this scale on my own. I have not joined a forum since the early 2000's. To be honest cant believe these things are still around.

I'm not sure why forums died, now its just disorganized facebook groups. Welcome to the forum.

The one thing I like about forums is that the information is organized. Welcome to the forum!!

Hello and welcome! Glad you joined us, as sirdan said, now the popular options are unorganized FB groups. We're here because forums are king! :)

We'll be happy to help out with your project. Feel free to DM me if you need help posting photos- Imgur seems to be a reliable way to embed photos in your posts, and that's what I've been using for the past 4 years.

I really appreciate the warm welcome. I just made a post on the pictures thread. Now to the looking to buy thread I want some original Louvers. Ebay has not been kind to me. One guy wants 800 plus.

eBay won't be the best place for finding parts, because as you've seen, the prices are crazy. I sold a set of louvers for around $150, maybe I should have asked for more lol.

Nothing wrong with asking what they are worth but trying to rob someone to make a ton if profit is not cool.

Trust me, we know. There is a Celica / Supra parts supplier in Southern California who will strip just about any xA60 chassis they can get their hands on, and sell the parts at exorbitant prices, no negotiation or you get blocked. The owner has a super short fuse, and his assistant fiancé isn't much help and won't settle disputes with customers who haven't received all their parts (at least in the case of one local friend in my area who purchased from them). All promises, no action. Their attitude with parts, prices, and customer service is awful. I know some people are trying to make a living, but... this is not dah wae.

I understand its capitalism but using the knowledge that there is a niche car culture that revolves around a certain style and esthetic and then using that knowledge to exploit them is wrong, but who am I to say what's right and what's wrong. At least I'm not a Shelby Cobra guy.
