First Project Car.
« on: Apr 20, 2021, 03:45:24 pm »
I will update this thread as work gets done.

Quick recap for those that did not read my into post. I'm new to the forum. My best friend growing up knows that I love 80's sports cars especially the Celica platform. My dad had a 85 Celica supra mk2 L-type when I was a kid and trashed it. I was not able to salvage the car and ended having to scarp it. The mad lad "Tyler"  had this 84 gts fall into his lap almost for free and snagged it for me. So with the use of his shop we are getting it back on the road.

What it looked like when my friend "Tyler" bought the car.

We pulled the engine stripped it down and started cleaning it up, needs a new low end rebuild but the block is good. Going to run with the original 22re till I get enough money and time to 1uz swap it.

Nice!!! Good to see such satisfying cleanup already happening! I'd suggest throwing in an LCE EFI Pro camshaft, really wakes up the stock engine without having to change anything else in the valvetrain. And a dual row timing chain upgrade, so that'll last forever.

Btw, looks like you can paste the photos directly in here (from a computer browser) by opening the image in a new tab, copying the link and using the BBcode image tags to attach it directly to the thread.

+1000 for twotone silver and blue! This is the third car I've seen with the 2N9 factory two tone paint color.

Celica the '84 Two-tone RA64 - Phase 2 In Progress! (159k); 1UZ-FE V8 Swap, W58 5-speed swap, Koni x Swift x T3 suspension, 6G Celica seat belts, TRD 2-way LSD, Corolla tape deck
Mia the '91 Miata - Revived Twice! (264k); BP-5A 1.8L swap, an NB in NA clothes
Lude the '95 Prelude Si - The Tweaker Queen (237k)
Lilith the '94 Legend GS - Blown HG (152k)

Thank you for taking a look. That two has grown on so im going to try and save that original paint. I will look into those parts. Thank you for your recommendations. I will definitely ask how to straighten up some of the body parts or where to get good door and window seals. I've been focused on getting the engine rebuilt.

Awesome! Looks like the hood / fender burned out the same way mine did, so I repainted in the same 2N9 two tone. But jealous that your pinstripe is intact. :)

Door/window seals are going to be no longer available, so that'll be a case of finding junker or NOS spares.

Yea I knew going into this that there where some things that I really just can not get anymore, and will have to make my own, and in a way I'm glad because I've learned so much so fast. I'm excited now to find out what's next what challenge will come up and we will have to have a creative solution for. Now I'm looking forward to learning how to make my own window seals and weather stripping if I cant find any. Like there has to be a way. Luckily the shop I'm working out of has so many knowledgeable people right next to it that its nothing to pop in and say hey how can I do this, or how can this be done. One guy, really nice old timer, just pops in to check on me and Tyler (my name is Edward by the way) and says hey how's the progress let me take a look, oh hey do this it will make that easier or hey good job your on the right path. Super knowledgeable guy. Part of me wants to fabricate my own metal louvers for the rear window. I just need to find someone that is willing to get me the dimensions and specs and I will bang one out. But I digress lets post the progress.

So I presure washed the block, pulled freeze plugs, washed it again, brushed the flash rust and painted it with high temp enamel black.

This is actually a short video. You can watch in the album witch is here.https://photos.app.goo.gl/8dZxB2BuGb2Ps6jR6
Honed the block.

Finally I pressure washed the engine bay.
