lets talk tires
« on: Aug 30, 2021, 04:49:51 pm »
Ok I need tires. i brought home 2 gts cars and I had to use the spare from our Cab because one wont hold air and there was only one spare. I had put BF goodrich on the cab about 5 years ago. I don't see the right size available now. If they don't make the original size any more what are they making that I can use? if there is a thread I didn't see it in my search

thanks beerman

I found this on a supra forum

https://www.celicasupra.com/threads/stock-tire-size-on-a-85-supra-and-other-sizes.27763/

I believe I have 235 all around on our cab

235/60/14 can be had in Cooper Cobra or BF Goodrich. Both are OK tires, although wet traction is pretty bad for both.

You don't need to remind me! After a 4 wheel drift while turning a corner in the wet I'm a lot more careful now!  :heh:

I do have the bf goodrich on the cab. The chepest i can find is $131 for the 225 size. I will have them mounted on the 2 other rims i stripped polished and resprayedwith black in the non polished part of wheel. I did 6 and put the best 4 on the cab with 235 tires 4 years ago.

To get 4 fresh tires under my GTS a few years ago, I went with Riken Raptor HR 215/60R14's.  Just a touch skinnier but hard to tell at a glance, and much less expensive than BFGs or Coopers.  (Riken is a lower-tier brand from Michelin, from what I understand they use old Michelin molds.)

Biggest downside I saw is that they don't come in raised-white-letter (RWL), just all-black.

Every now and then, Dunlop will make a limited production run of GT Sport radials in a 235/60/14. While they were still in stock, I tried to look up information for them on Dunlop’s site, but I couldn’t find anything. It’s possible that they could be knock offs, but hard to tell. I bought a set in 2016 when I got the car and another set last sunmer. They are not block tread either! Excellent handling, quiet, long treadlife.

I went the same route with the Cooper 235s. And can verify that wet traction is not a strong suit...
