W58 short shifter?
« on: Oct 08, 2021, 06:56:38 pm »
i want to reduce a lot of this in gear slop in my shifter and found a product form CUBE that makes short throws for our trans. Was wondering if anyone knows of possibly cheaper alternatives since the shifter is nearly $300.

If you want to get rid of the shifter slop, I'd suggest the BillyM shifter bushing kit

Yep - absolutely a worn socket inside the trans that no shifter will fix.

Cheers!

I used a B&M (now Ralco or China made) short shifter for a 2002 IS300. You'll need a spacer to go between the base of the shifter and the top of the shifter housing. You'll also need to align the mounting holes of the shifter to the shifter housing and remove the shifter housing pivot tabs. Throw will be 2.5" top to bottom. Oh and the shifter is $99 from China and $150 for the Ralco.

plan to get that amazon one first just to see how it is. i set in the billy m shifter bushings and it did noticably feel better, but after slapping around the shifter with the rubber trans boot off, the top plate itself is mushroomed out which causes play in the actual pivot point. thanks for the pointers!

Please do not buy the replica Cube short shifters. It hurts their business and the Cube product is superior, to me. I got the W58 short shifter base and adapted a Hurst shifter handle to it. I'm also a little biased because I am trying to work with them to make a specific shifter for our cars. I provided CAD and am in communication with them now on refining the concept.

it did just arrive in the mail. i still plan to get the cube shifter for my own car as frankly, the quality is questionable. dads expressed more interest in it and once i buy my cube, ill be giving him this one. for now ill see if it is as clunky as it feels. i didnt know this was a pure ripoff to the cube shift kit though, and honestly that irks me a lot. may just toss it after funds are up to par when i pick up the cube, thank you for working with them to make it even better to our cars.
