4 runner oil pan in celica 22r/22re (?)
« on: Mar 01, 2022, 11:14:06 pm »
If youre like me and have a dented oil pan you may have noticed it is next to impossible to find one that's a "celica" 22re/22r oil pan. Technically speaking it seems reasonable to think a 4 runner with the exact same motor would have the same oil pan but no one has confirmed or denied it yet. if you can shed more info on this subject it would be greatly appreciated

After much searching I have come to the answer that a 2wd 4 runner indeed has the same oil pan, however the 4wd models have a deeper oil pan and pick up tube which makes them incompatible (you can tell the difference in size and a 4wd oil pan has a small shield welded on that 2WD ones dont). I have yet to confirm it indefinitely because I can't find a physical part number for the celica's oil pan but they look identical in every way. I will add the parts number and the year you will need to find the oil pan below aswell as photos of a celica pan vs 4 runner

Nice work! Do you know about ToyoDIY.com? Great resource for looking up OEM part numbers. For the 85 22RE they list:

12101-35010   (08/1984 - 06/1985)
12101-39325   (08/1981 - 07/1984)

That second PN combined with the supercessions you found makes me think it should fit.

EDIT: dang it, 2 digits are flipped. So not as confirmed as I'd hoped. It looks very similar, I wonder if maybe baffling is slightly different or something. The oil pickup tube assembly for the Celica also has its own part number.

As I recall, the Celica pan has a 2 step bottom, only a deep section and a shallow section.

I wasn't aware of toyodiy but I'll definitely dig into this more later tonight and post any info I find, my local toyota dealer wasn't able to find any parts numbers or info on the celica oil pan to compare so it makes me wonder if the pans aren't different in some way. If I dont get to the bottom of it soon I will just buy a 4 runner pan and see for myself
