Headliner installation
« on: May 11, 2022, 05:37:34 am »
so i'm nearing the last legs of a replaced interior in my liftback 85. recently scored a perfectly intact headliner for mine, but the only catch is that its a coupe headliner. the coupe roofline is a good maybe 4-5 inches longer than a liftbacks, so ill be carefully trimming it down, but the liftback also has a steep curve to it that i need to recreate. anyone have any tips to tackle this? i am considering using a steam gun to moisten the fiber material and mold it into the right shape but wanted any other tips or methods to possibly do this.

I understand that it would be smarter to find the correct headliner to the liftback, however, literally everyone within a 500 mile radius to me wants to keep them, and the only other i've found is on ebay asking $600. and that ones also a sunroof version so this is all i can realistically achieve right now

Have you given consideration to building yourself a new one?  Heavy fiberboard and material?  Using your old one as a template?

i never had one when purchased. i managed to get it to fit really nicely through careful trimming and some encouragement with the steamer to soften the brittle cardstock. i can comfortably say that you can make a coupe headliner match up to a liftbacks easily.
