I am too upset to even contact the detailer. He broke one side, and I would think after that snapping noise and the mirror flopping around, he would have stopped and realized what he did. Nope, he then broke he other side too. He is a mobile detailer and cleaned my car while I was working from home. I didn't realize what he had did until later last night after he had left and when I went out to the garage to take the car for a spin.
I have arthritis and some other health issues and have limited use of my hands. My neighbor helped me remove the passenger mirror and pop the lens off. Sure enough, both points where the adjustment screws are molded into the lens were broken. Amazingly, on the pivot ball where the mirror pops into the housing, the original lithium grease from the factory was not only there, but looked as fresh as it would if it were dabbed on there this week. The mirrors were simply as perfect as they day there were made until this detailer broke them.
So, the damage is yes, only that the 2 plastic screws that are molded to the lens, and are pushed in and out by the little while plastic geared motors, are snapped off the lens.
My first alternative is to purchase a replacement set of mirrors. You mentioned there are expensive replacements available? Do you have any links or names to such a set up such mirrors? I have searched the interwebs and haven't yet found any replacements. Replacing them is my first choice.
Second alternative if I cannot purchase a replacement is to seek out someone on this site who'd be willing to allow me to ship my mirrors to them for their repair expertise and ship them back to me (someone can help an older man and also earn some $). I lost partial use of my hands a few years ago, and don't know of anyone that would be willing take on the repair I saw detailed on this site (to the member two-tone RA64, thank you for that post on the repair - it gives me hope).
Thank you for the reply. Just hearing that there may be a replacement I can purchase is good news.
