Help with Oil Pickup and Oil Pan Install
« on: Jun 25, 2022, 11:38:37 pm »
Hello!

I recently purchased a 1984 Celica GT with the 22re. The timing chain, guides, cover and the oil pan/oil pick up were all off. I tried to install a timing cover with the two dimples and it wasnt tall enough. Left about 2 inches between the top of the head, and the top of the timing cover. I got a timing cover without the two dimples and it is the right height, but doesnt match up with the bock shape.

A second issue Im having is the oil pick up and oil pan but would be about 3 inches too low to clear the sub fame. The engine mounts are all in the correct spot. Im not too sure what going on with it. Does anybody have a schematic or anything for where it should be?

Thanks!

are you sure you have a celica specific oil pan? the celicas use different pan shapes compared to the pickups, and 4runners, where some of the truck ones use rear sumps, ours use front sump. same with the oil pickup routing. and i dont know much in terms of fitting the timing chain cover. is the head off the block to expose pistons, giving you further access with fitting the timing cover?

Going to need pics. The 22RE timing cover mates to the bottom of the head, not the top. There were early and late blocks, but the height difference is 1/4", not 2". And I have no idea what dimples you're talking about.
