Tracking maintenance and repairs
« on: Sep 10, 2022, 06:20:13 pm »
Dumb question, do you guys track your maintenance and repairs?

I never really thought about it until recently as now I have four vehicles and can't remember when I've done maintenance A and B or repairs or...

Spreadsheets aren't really suited to this task. Nor is a word processing document.

I see that there are apps for the phone for this but I would rather not store this stuff in the cloud. I hate using a phone for pretty much any data entry. Nor do I want to pay...

If you'd want to track this type of information, what would you track?

I'll have to do some more thinking about this...
SELECT celica FROM toyota WHERE year<=1985;

1985 GT-S
-Rebuilt engine: bored .020 over, oversize valves, new cam
-Thorley header w/heated O2 sensor at collector & all new exhaust
-Impact6 strut bar
-3.9LSD rearend, which is now slipping
-Lots of bodywork and new paint!
-New cd player to cover up all those squeaks and rattles
-JK short-throw shifter

I just have a little notebook that I keep in the glove box of each car. Whenever I do work I write date, miles, and enough details about what I did to jog my memory. Pretty simple and efficient.

Well, I currently keep track of finances in an application. So while I track cost of parts etc this really doesn't help track everything about the car (thinking of no purchase of parts to repair a vehicle.)

Maybe if I get bored I'll write an application to track this stuff for me. I hate cloud based crap because at some point they'll sell your info.

I have a not app on my phone that i keep notes of what i have done and when. I used to keep a note book in the glove box but sometimes would forget. The other positive is i always have the information to refer to. I currently track 8 different cars kinda hard to remember it all.

Yeah, that's why I was thinking I'd like to track it. I could write a local web app if I got bored. We'll see how bored I get.
