1982 Pre Facelift Headlight Fix
« on: Oct 17, 2022, 04:06:05 am »
Okay so this wont work for every single one of your cars id assume, but my dads 82 zenki with the lift forward style headlamps always had the retractors have issues. They popped up perfectly fine, but would stay up for hours on end after being set to the down position. went about changing the retractor relay, cleaning contacts inside the motors, checking voltages, the whole shebang. Well, almost a year since hes had it, after scavenging an 83 coupe for the dash in a pick&pull, i learned that theres a small blue headlight retractor controller behind the dash cluster on the rightmost area, near where the speedo cable runs through. scooping that off the car, i went about plugging it in, only for it to not fix the issue. afterwards though, and plugging in the old original, they pop up and down right on cue. Not sure if unplugging the controller tripped something inside it or what, but it certainly fixed that pretty annoying issue with the car, just wanted to make a small post to help if anyone ever had this issue.

Very possible there was a bad connection at that controller/relay.
