Left turn crunch
« on: Jan 09, 2023, 10:29:24 pm »
My daily driver is in the shop so I will have to drive the celica to work for a few days so I hope to figure this out quickly.

When turning hard left and up into an incline, like turning left up into a driveway apron, there is a nasty crunch. It doesn't seem to do it to the right. To me it sounds like a threaded rod slipping.

I had my outer tie rods replaced and can't remember if we did the inner ones. The shop did the work and alignment but didn't see anything else wrong. Any idea what to look for? I'll be looking at the inner left tie rod first.

Tension control rods- they're the threaded rod crunch you hear because the front ends of 'em are threaded rods! At least, that's where I'd start to look.

Are you hard up against the steering stop? They originally had a rubber cover but that is likely gone, so the steering stop is steel on steel. It's a little bolt looking doober that rubs on the steel protuberance on the control arm.

Nailed it. The bumper has no rubber and I can jiggle it a little. You can see the scrapes. Is there any kind of replacement?
