Intake Piping
« on: Sep 06, 2003, 02:28:00 am »
Does anybody know where Luis got his intake piping (from throttle body to AFM) from? I'm guessing its for another car but its shape fits nicely for ours too. Here's a pic of it...

Hey its me luis,i got my pipe from a local autoparts store,it belongs to a honda accord 91-95 or something like that, the thing is that the original pipe its very long and it has a 90deg. bent,so all you have to do its cut it,but be carefull cause if you cut too much your out of 30 to 60 dlls.well hope this helps.

I was wondering, would you need some type of blow-off valve or modification if you created a true ram air induction? I have been drawing up plans that consist of cutting a section out of a hood over where the airbox is and installiing some decent universal scoop, not too big (like the ist gen. 300zx turbo's, or an ALL-TRAC) and maybe just modding the intake (filtercharger, etc.) or keeping the stock airbox and drilling a hole to affix a crude blow-off valve type deal. I have a big bore throttle body already on and an LC Engineering efi pro camshaft. I do need to upgrade the stock exhaust though no matter what and do that trick to the afm to lean the mixture. My concern was putting too much pressure on the engine seals or something to that point. I have thought of just putting the scoop on backwards just to get air from the outside and use an open element deal.

You shouldnt need any kind of blow off valve for ram air, since it isnt being compressed and it isnt a closed system.

i hope you know that's not noticeable till around 70mph...
the scoop will only take so much air
(not much more than if you put the air intake tube thru the hood and faced it into the wind with no scoop)
the rest of the air will just go around the air pressure 'hump' the scoop will cause

now if you go past 300mph, you'll be compressing the air i think
and it'll be a very noticeable hp mod

Weapon R makes a setup that gives you a ram air setup that doesnt require a scoop....

Yep they sure do,i got it in my gt,i had to cut a 4 inch hole in the fender to pass the air hose to the front of the car and connected to the scoop  afther this mod my car gets only outside ram air wich is good.the only thing i did not like about Weapon R's system is that the scoop is more like a small funel, very small, its about 2 by 6 inches and the hose is 31/2 in.so im thinkig in adding a better way to scoop the air.

my 88 4x p'up 22re has the inlet coming outta the airbox into the headlight holder
would that box fit on a celica?
probly not, it's where your battery is, driver front corner
but you could make one like that maybe?
the intake is no larger than the hose going to the throttle body

those expensive intakes sound like quite a gimmick...
but not a hp mod

They are really only useful if the AFM/MAS can flow as much air as the pipe. also, having a pipe instead of a rubber tube makes the air go into the motor somewhat straighter, so its more efficient.

This one has a 90 degree bend...

But shows 2 different types, one of them from my previous post. I'd have to ask about that...
