Why did he put a V8 in the Supra?  What was wrong with the 5M-GE?

I WOULD like to see a V8 in a MKIIII Supra.

He should have put a 6m-GE in it and turboed that... would probably be better than the V8, less weight in the front.

I prefer the idea of having a straight six making that 350hp. I guess having that V8 works for him, but must make that car pretty front heavy.

Not at all. That motor wieghs about 500 lbs dry ( I can pick one up myself, w/o heads, intake, exaust)  The 5m is how much?  I have no idea.. but I am guessing around 400 lbs.

The beauty of a SBC (small block chev) is that you can get 1,000 hp out of a STREETABLE motor.  (ok... maybe Av Gas isnt streetable.... :-D )

I have 400 hp in a mild 406 (6.8 L) SBC, and I havent even begun on the inside.

I will agree with you on one thing: SBC = Cheap HP   It gets alot more expensive to get serious HP from the Japanese engines

Well, now you guys are going to make me hate myself, because i cannot believe I will actually make this statement on a public forum. In this case the Chevy SB will more than likely outlast the Jap engine, since it would be the Toyota M series engine. That engine is plagued with head gasket problems, and any honest Toyota fan will admit to that. You can easily find 302, 351, 305, 350, 318 engines with 200k on them, but not the same with the M series engine. If it was a different engine we were talking about, I would have agreed. By the way I am not exactly a Chevy fan, since I prefer Fords. However, what I am is a car fan, and see the good in most manufacturers, whether Honda or Toyota or Chevy or Ford.

Hmmmmm, that's right, bit of a brain fart on my part ^_^;;. i forgot about the head gaskets on the 5, 6, and 7 M series had problems... i was thinking more along the lines of the 22-R/RE... them fatties go forever.

yeah thats right. The 22re will go on and on.  Our old pick up had over 200 000 when it was sold, then the new owners son "was driving it and then it stopped running" Three nice big holes in the block. At 224000 that thing pulled in every gear.
