Does the car knock now?  Does the engine have the same power or is there loss?
Does you check engine light come on?  Have you checked of the self-diagnosis codes. To check for the codes: short the smae two wire that you short when you set the timing, but do not start the car just turn on the key, the "check engine" light will flash.  The owner manual  or the haynes manual will help you to understand the codes.
I'm assuming you own a 85 Celica right?  because the earlily Celicas with EFI did not have a knock sensor. Some late 84 were of the 85 model.

It wont knock unless you have another problem. The knock sensor is there to let the ecu retard the ignition if pinging is recorded in the engine. You probably need to check you code and see what code it recorded. That will let you know what faults are stored in your ecu. If none are there, then you probably do not have a problem

I dont think my check light went on when i spun a rod bearing... it went on after the died... then i could start my engine back up and thats when i knew my rod bearing went out... my engine still would run and drive with a messed up rob bearing.

Yeah but thats not what your knock sensor is there for. It is a preventative measure against detonation or pinging. this is a combustion issue while your rod knock is from your bearings "spinning"   Your ecu will only read certain faults. Just depends on how many/type of sensors and parameters

I not sure I never had a knick sesnor go bad. I was asking to help me diafnos your problem. Like stated aready the knock sensor is to keep the engine from destorying it-self.
Toyotas ECUs aleast the 85 and up will keep advancing the timing intill it senses knock than retards the timing and starts all over again.
