Buyer Guidelines
« on: Oct 12, 2006, 03:22:59 am »
* I found this posted on a few other forums so I decided to add it here.

1. If someone has fewer than 100 posts, think twice before sending them more money than you can do without.

2. If you're buying something online from someone you don't know, ask for pictures before agreeing to the deal.

3. If it's a big dollar amount, use an escrow service. Demand it. If the seller balks, walk. It's not worth the risk you take sending thousands of dollars to an unknown (usually in the form of a money order or cashier's check that will be cashed before you can do anything about it).

4. If you don't want to use an escrow service, use PayPal. Get verified and confirm your address. If the seller wants you to pay the PayPal fee, do it. PayPal has one of the most aggressively buyer oriented satisfaction systems on the planet. If a seller cannot provide electronically verifiable proof that something shipped to a confirmed address, you get your money back. If you have a problem with a sale, PayPal will freeze the funds until it's resolved. caveat - PayPal cannot keep someone from withdrawing funds before there is a problem, so you may end up winning a judgment against an empty account. PayPal is NOT a great substitute for escrow

5. Use the search function to see if a user name comes up in threads regarding bad deals.
