That's why my check engine light came on. So, are you telling me you have simplified it to:
Send you less than $500 and donor/my ecu for the plugs ;)
You send ms
I plug it in
Crank up
make minor adjustments
enjoy the rest of my life

Just to be specific.  I haven't found a good reliable assembly source for MS units that will allow me to resell them at a discount.  As such, I refer to a reliable vendor - DIYautotune.  Their units, setup for the toyta run about $350.
I'm happy to pre-tune/configure them for free.

My harness is $125.

The process is:
1) Verify that your timing is 4-5deg BTDC.  Make sure you jumper your test connector to check timing.  This is the setting for stock timing, but it's important to double check it.

2) Install a vacuum line between the manifold and megasquirt.

3) Set your TPS (recommended, may not be necessary - you do this with megasquirt software)

3) Plug it in (works with your stock wiring).  Start, drive away.

You can tune spark advance and air fuel to your hearts content.  Minor tuning may be necessary for your modifications, but I allow a 15% correction of the stock fuel map per feedback from your oxygen sensor.

I'm pre-tuned for "stock" 22REs.  Turbos/Superchargers are going to require signficiant tuning. If you've got ECU codes, you need to work them out before installing megasquirt.

I have a friend that can get MS pretty cheap compared to what you are quoting. I'll talk to him and see where he sources his from.

Thanks.. I know that price is fairly high.. I will say that diyautotune does *excellent* work - I've looked at their board.  They insulate the input/output circuits correctly and have done a lot of work with VAST and the MR2.

I'm willing to buy these boards from individuals that assemble them, but they need to talk to me about proper setup and configuration as well as guarantee their work.  It's very easy to get something wrong.

I trust my friend who can get them. He has built quite a few of them including his first one for an 18RGE powered 4x4 truck. I know he can get them not assembled, but he will build them for a little more.

DCG: Are you running MS I with MSSnE? I'd be interested in getting your fuel maps if you are. Spark maps would be cool too, considering I'll eventually be running the spark side, but some good fuel maps to get started would be REALLY helpful.
Also, I have larger injectors, I'm pretty sure I can just put that part into the constants page of MS and then use the same map that were based on stock injectors?

Yes, I'm runing MSSnSE (Squirt and Spark Extra).
I've enclosed a photo that shows my spark and fuel maps.
Both of these came from another base 22RE, I've adjusted them to my motor and running 87 octane gas.  I really haven't tuned them beyond 4k for my particular motor, but they should be fine.  Fuel is within 10% to 4000 rpm.  I typically let the 02 correct to 15%

Timing is also tuned to 4000 rpm, I started them off pinging and dropped the advance back.

I've notice no issues above 4000, I simply haven't spent time tuning there.

My base timing is 4-5 deg BTDC, for reference.

If you want them in VEX file format, just let me know.

I understand that megatune can "scale" the fuel VE based on required fuel, but I also understand that it may not be a straight 1:1 scale mapping.  IE - additional tuning may be required.  It's a good place to start.
I'm running stock injectors, I think I set the flow to 180 cc/min.

Many Many thanks, that looks about what the map I had looked like, but it has a little more fuel in the top end...

So, what do you do with the wires that run to the airflow meter or do you continue to use the airflow meter?

The AFM is necessary to control the fuel pump (on a stock 22RE).
For the easiest installation, you keep the AFM.  No jumpers, no hassles, no extra wiring.

If you want to remove the AFM, it's totally possible.  You basically need to jumper two pins on the AFM connector, this feeds the control of the fuel pump back to megasquirt.  I make minor changes to the harness to control the fuel pump.  This is the setup that I built for my turbo setup and what I recommend for people going turbo.

There's an extensive writeup on my website about how to do this and it walks you through how to build a harness in the event that you want to do it yourself.
Go to 22returbo.net, click on "22re custom EFI" and at the top there is a link that provides the how-to.  I'd upload it here, but it's too big and I do make changes from time to time, so I don't want multiple versions floating around.

yea, jumpering for fuel pump control is easy. I also use the AFM harness for the air temp sensor, which I put in the intake tube (A lot of early 90's GM's use an air temp sensor that is clipped into the air can rather than screwed into the manifold, I just used one of those and clipped it into a cheap CAI style intake tube).

I've received a few inquiries on this.   Just to be clear:

1) I don't do "other" toyota motors at this time.
2) My setup (plug and play) is for Toyotas with VAST only.  If you've got a vac advance setup, you don't have VAST.
3) I have a few different options for harness setups.  Removing the AFM makes things more complicated (slightly).
4) If you want to use a turbo, non-stock injectors, or a supercharger, I can't tune those without the vehicle.  I'll have a complete map for a turbo setup, 440cc injecotrs, and I have a setup for a close to stock 22RE, but other than that - my tuning is no good... Radical motors have to be tuned individually, there is no such thing as plug in and drive away with no tuning on a high hp setup.
5) I'll help you for free, I provide timing/fuel maps for free.  I only charge  for my time when I have to build something.. I'll help you build it on your own at no cost.

I'd love to get a Plug and play MS for my celica, its gonna be a a bit before I can afford to do it all but..

What would I need to order from DIY for a "Stockish" 85 22RE removing AFM setup and keeping stock dizzy/coil arrangment?

as for how thing work with you its..
a) I order MS ECU from *wherever*
B) They send me Configured MS ECU
c) I send you the MSnS and a donor ECU + $$$.
d) You send me pretuned MSnS + Plug'n'Play harness.
e) I plug everything in, remove AFM, install Air temp sensor and MAF tubing. then drive off?

does that sum it up well?

I may look into buying one of these when I do my turbo build up in around 2 years if you're still making them.   :lick:
