Plug And Play Megasquirt - Success.

Depends on which kit you want. MS I kits are ~$190, MS II kits are ~$250. MS I is more than plenty to control a 22RE with boost, but MS II is a lot more accurate and more powerful. Both have their quirks.

what i had in mind was to keep the engine stock and improve my MPG's with better fuel control.
i built a circuit to monitor my O2 sensor output and have noticed the stock ECU fails to comp for light throttle especially at higher revs (above 3k)
MOD's custom transmission (A46DL...sort of it didnt exist until I built it): 16" electric fan (aftermarket, modified to fit) with temp probe and relay KIT. moved temp probe to bottom tank of radiator...the fan works much better now.
EB268c camshaft, 2" cat back exhaust, steel backed chain guide (got tired of braking guides)
replaced rear springs with MOOG MOG-5604 with 2.5 turns removed

Probably
You'll want to use a wideband O2 sensor and run the motor at about 15.2:1 at cruise to get good mileage. Doing timing control with Megasquirt will make a huge difference in mileage too, you can probably run 37-39° of advance at cruise with that motor and get pretty good mileage.

does MS-1 handle timing well?
what inputs/sensors does it use/not use?

MSI handles timing just fine, I'm running it on the 2RZ. Using a locked (TCCS dizzy) it's pretty easy to do direct coil control and eliminate the stock igniter. Or use an MSD box, or a complete conversion to wasted spark or even coil on plug.
You just need standard EFI sensors, TPS, coolant temp, air temp, O2, etc.
Go to www.megamanual.com and start reading.
If you've got any installation specific questions, feel free to ask, but the manual is right there for the megasquirt specific stuff.

I noticed the  car harness had three plugs for the ECU. I have an 83 GTS that I want to convert, however it has only two plugs. ECU P/N is 079700-0890. What do I need to use for this P/N? thanks, Chuck

So this would be a good spot to finally use my Mallory dizzy that has no vacuum advance, and then just lock down the mechanical (centrifugal) advance - along side my current MSD 6a box?
