Differences Between Gt & Gt-s
« on: Sep 15, 2003, 09:12:27 am »
Well what are the main differences?
I know that GT-S' have IRS and fender flares. Anything else? Like more torque or HP?

Well the reason I ask (but I'm not gonna do it like right now) is that there is this badass '85 (I think) GT-S near my work. It's a dark greyish-brown color. It's got some rust and crap where you would expect it, but it looks a lot better condition than my car right now. Seems to me that the owner doesn't even drive it too, cause it needs a really good wash. The left headlight is smashed and so is the front grill. I could transfer those parts from my '84 GT though. I need to know how much mileage it gots and other stuff. Problem is how would I even contact the seller? Any ideas? All I though of was leaving a note on the car, but it seems the person doesn't drive it at all.

Its just the IRS and some of the options like power this and that, like mine for example its a 85 GT coupe and its fully loaded(minus the supra seats that i dont even like anyways)power everything.also the 85 EFI models come with 116hp vs.105hp on 84 and earlier EFI models, and if its carb its even less 96hp this are stock specs ONLY(no mods)one more thing dont pay more than 500 to 1000 dls if its runing (here in cali they just give celis away)and in the condition that you said it was.Good luck.

With the GTS you got the IRS,  fender flares, upgraded rims, Supra seats and a few other things. You could use your parts to resurrect that GTS. Just be careful with your investment. You will feel the difference in ride with the IRS. With a good suspension the car will turn on a dime. Plus with the disk brakes you will also notice the car stops alot quicker. The front fenders are different though.  The GT will bolt on but I believe the GTS uses a special fender for the flares. They are normally listed seperately

Are you sure you know what I'm talking about? Its the black grill crap between the 2 headlights in the front. It's smashed in and cracked and you can see the radiator. Well if the radiator is broke, I have a brand new one in my car if I actually buy the GT-S.

On a side note.. I saw an 80's model Supra today at 7-Eleven. The models that look similar to our cels but have the pop up headlights. Looks nice... My dream car would either be one of the late 80's Turbo Supras or a 93 Celica All-trac. *droooooool*   :)

Besides the front and rear fenders the bodies are the same, so as long as you are not trying to replace anything to do with them you should be fine.

1985 Celipra GT-S (driven by Chris):

I check the car out again today. I looked at the odometer. It's at 95K. ^_^_^_^_^_^_^_^_^_^_^!!!  :)  :)  :)  :)  Well it could've been 195K cause the view I was at and my poor eyesight, but I'm hoping for the best.

Man.... GT-S look tight as hell. Those big tires and fenders scream out the manly machismo testosterone in the car. I have to get one.

I'm gonna try borrow my sis's camera soon so I can take pictures of the car. So can you guys help me out on a good offering price? Hahah I'm gonna be a GT-S stalker for right now...

How does the IRS of the GT-S compare to the GT? I would also love to have 116 HP. And be able to put in a LSD.  :D

The IRS lets the car handle so much better, you will kow the difference the first time you drive a GT-S(IRS) over that of a GT(solid alxe). Yes sence it is a 85 it would have the 7.5" diff, meaning most if not all of the Supra's(82-86) diff will fix.
Supra had LSD with a gear range of 3.73:1-4.30:1, while the Celica should a 3.91:1
but thats only on the 85 with the 7.5". You own a 84 right? then the first time you drive the 85 you will notice how much faster the car is and how the shift points come sooner. No Celica(82-85) came with a LSD, just the Supras.

I miss my 85GT-S

Start at 400 and gradually move up to no more than 1000.  Keep in mind the car hasnt been used in a while, plus it had body damage. You also arent sure of the mileage, and what other problems the car has. Try as hard as possible to stay low. Really if it was me I would go with 150 then move up from there, and try to look as serious as possible to make it look like I know what I am saying.  If the car is there for that long the person might not want it anymore.  Ask people around the complex if they know whose car it is. Also dont let anyone know you really want it, because the price is equivalent to your enthusiasm
